Small Claims Court

The small claims court was established in 1968 as a division of the District Court system. Its purpose is to provide a court to be used by people, without the aid of attorneys, to settle monetary disputes of $7,000 or less.

You do not need to know anything about the law to bring a suit in small claims court. Lawyers are not allowed, you simply state your case in your own words. After both sides have been heard, the judge or magistrate decides on who is right.
