Sheriff Stephenson

Sheriff Scott Stephenson is a fourth generation Midland native who was educated in the Midland Public School system.  He attended Indiana University and graduated in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts & Sciences degree in criminal justice. Sheriff Stephenson then attended the Northeastern Police Academy in 1993 and was hired by the Clare County Sheriff’s Office in 1994.

In 1995 Sheriff Stephenson was hired by the Midland County Sheriff’s Office as a road patrol deputy. While working at the Midland County Sheriff’s Office he has been a member of the Midland SWAT team, a detective for BAYANET, a road patrol sergeant and the jail manager.

On January 1, 2013 Sheriff Stephenson began his first term as the Midland County Sheriff. He is the 27th Sheriff of Midland County since the office began in 1855. Sheriff Stephenson resides in Midland with his three children.

Captain Thomas

Road Patrol/Administration Captain Tracy Thomas was hired by the Midland County Sheriff’s Office as a Road Patrol deputy in November 1991. During his tenure as a road patrol deputy, he worked several assignments including accident re-constructionist, M.I.S.S.I.O.N Team investigator, and field training coordinator. Captain Thomas works closely with Sheriff Scott Stephenson to oversee the budget of the Midland County Sheriff’s Office. He is also responsible for the day to day operations of the Road Patrol, Detective Bureau, Records Division, Court Security, Marine Patrol, and Reserve Deputies. Captain Thomas graduated from Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City. He is also a graduate of the 214th Session of the F.B.I National Academy. Captain Thomas and his wife live in Midland with their two children.

Captain Derocher

Jail Captain Jeff Derocher was hired by the Midland County Sheriff’s Office as a Corrections Officer in July of 2001.  In 2004 he was promoted to Corrections Shift Leader, promoted to Jail Lieutenant in 2007 and to Jail Captain in 2017. 

He is a Certified Jail Manager (CJM) through the American Jail Association, 2015 Deputy of the year, Michigan Sheriff’s Association M.I.S.S.I.O.N investigator and served ten years as a rescue diver with the MCSO dive team.

Captain Derocher is responsible for the daily operation of the Jail which includes nearly forty security staff and numerous administrative and auxiliary staff and contractors.

He is a graduate of Pinconning High School, a Marine Corps veteran and has attended Delta College and Ferris State University.  He enjoys volunteering and serving through various community organizations, he and his wife live in Auburn with their four sons.

Administrative Secretary Blevons

Amber Blevons has served with the Midland County Sheriff's Office since 2006.  Her Administrative duties include assisting the Sheriff and maintaining his calendar, processing new hirees and maintaining personnel files.  She manages all grants pertaining to the Sheriff's Office, and oversees the Records Bureau.

Amber has lived in Midland County for over 20 years. She is actively involved in ministry at her church alongside her husband, and together they have two young daughters.
