2022 Boater Safety Class

The Midland County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting a free Boater Safety Class at the Midland Law Enforcement Center on Saturday, July 16th, 2022. The class will start at 8:00am and will finish around 3:00pm. Registration is limited to the first 25 students. Registration is open from June 17th, 2022, until July 8th, 2022. Please bring a black or blue pen to class. Please plan on packing a lunch for either a lunch hour, or a working lunch.

The main purpose of the boater safety education course is to train knowledgeable, safe and responsible boaters. Topics covered include general boating and water safety, navigational rules, causes and prevention of crashes, operation and fueling techniques, environmental concerns and reporting responsibility.

Any motorized boat operator born after June 30, 1996, is required by law to pass an approved boater safety course and to carry a boater safety certificate. In addition, boater education is also required for all PWC operators born after December 31, 1978. Michigan’s boater education course is taught by a dedicated core of certified volunteer instructors, sheriff’s deputies and Michigan conservation officers.

  • Each Student taking the class needs to create an account or login if the student already has an account.

  • Search the Boater Safety Education courses for the event at the Midland Law Enforcement Center on July 16, 2022 and register for the event. You will receive a confirmation email.

About the Class:

  • In person, traditional classroom setting

  • Written test (75% or better to pass)

  • No minimum age requirement; however, students under 10 years of age shall be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian, or other adult approved by parent or legal guardian.
