MEDIA RELEASE - JULY 6, 2020
FATAL TRAFFIC CRASH
The Midland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a two vehicle traffic crash that claimed the life of Maryellen Walker, a 29 year old Mills Township woman. The incident occurred on Waldo Road north of Monroe Road in Larkin Township at approximately 12:57 pm on 07-05-2020.
Our investigation indicates that the driver of a 2002 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, David Rousseau, age 30, was driving southbound on Waldo Road. Mr. Rouseau was following a mini-van, also southbound on Waldo Road which was turning westbound on Monroe Road.
At this time a 2019 Chevy pick-up truck driven by Dorothy Robbins, an 82 year old female from Auburn, MI, was eastbound on Monroe Road and stopped at the intersection when she continued eastbound on Monroe Road. The Harley-Davidson motorcycle began to pass the mini-van near the intersection and collided into the driver side of the 2019 Chevy pick-up truck.
Ms. Walker was the passenger on the 2002 Harley-Davidson and was pronounced deceased at the Mid-Michigan Medical Center. Mr. Rouseau was taken to the Mid-Michigan Medical Center with serious injuries. Ms. Robbins was wearing her seatbelt and the airbags did deploy. She was not injured.
The incident remains under investigation. While there is no evidence to indicate that alcohol or drugs may have been a factor in this crash, we are waiting for toxicology reports for a final determination. Once the investigation is complete, a report will be sent to the Midland County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
The Midland County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Mid-Michigan EMS and Larkin Township Fire and Rescue.
