The Midland County Sheriff's Office is investigating a traffic crash involving a single vehicle that claimed the life of an 88 year old Flint man. The incident took place on West Saginaw Road near North Geneva Road in Warren Township at approximately 6:38 pm on July 10, 2019.
Our investigation indicates that the driver, Elmer Lawrence Vinton, age 88, was driving his tan 2006 Chevy Silverado pick-up truck and was heading eastbound on West Saginaw Road. The vehicle left the roadway to the left and struck a driveway embankment which caused the vehicle to overturn.
Mr. Vinton's wife, Patricia Vinton, age 86, was a front seat passenger in the pick-up truck.
Mr. and Mrs. Vinton were both wearing their seat belt at the time of the crash and air bags did deploy.
Mr. and Mrs. Vinton were both transported to Mid-Michigan Medical Center by EMS. Mr. Vinton was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. Mrs. Vinton was hospitalized with severe injuries.
While there is no evidence to indicate that alcohol or drugs may have been a factor in this crash, we are waiting for toxicology reports for a final determination. This report will be forwarded to the Midland County Prosecutor's Office for review once it has been completed.
The Midland County Sheriff's Office were assisted at the scene by Mid-Michigan Medical Center EMS and Coleman Fire Rescue.
