NEWS RELEASE - September 7, 2017
The Midland County Sheriff's Office arrested a 38 year old Midland man for fleeing and eluding, OWI 3rd and DWLS. The initial stop was made on eastbound US 10 near M-30 in Lincoln Township at 10:13 PM On 09/06/17.
After initially pulling over, the suspect fled in his silver 1992 GMC Sierra pickup truck. The initial stop was for having an improper license plate.
During the initial stop, the suspect fled eastbound on US 10 and reached speeds of 100 mph. The suspect vehicle exited US 10 at Stark Road and went north. The suspect then traveled east on Hull Road to Dublin, then north on Dublin Road to East Baker Road. The suspect went east on East Baker Road to Sturgeon Road.
At this point another Deputy deployed Stinger Spike strips which the suspect vehicle ran over deflating the front tires and slowing the pursuit (speeds on the secondary roads were around 70 mph). The suspect still continued south on Sturgeon Road, where he lost control when he was turning east onto East Shaffer Road and struck a stop sign. The suspect continued eastbound on East Shaffer Road to Eastman. The suspect then headed south on Eastman Road where he turned west onto Bombay Road. By this time the suspect vehicle was driving on just its front rims. The driver then stopped and fled into the woods on foot. He was found a short time later and taken into custody at 10:34 PM.
The suspect was taken to the Midland County Jail where he was lodged pending his arraignment. The driver was also issued traffic citations for improper plate, open intox and no proof of insurance.
