Seasonal Mosquito Control Technicians

Start Wednesday, April 1 - Friday, September 11

Performs work of routine difficulty in mosquito control operations. Conducts field inspections and application of insecticides in areas such as woodlots, flooded fields, marshes, ditches and other areas with rugged terrain with significant obstacles; will work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions including rain and variable temperatures; performs routine maintenance and repair of equipment; maintains daily records of activities; answers questions and interacts with the public. Onsite training provided for the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Registered Applicator exam.  Must be able to lift and/or carry 50 lbs over rough terrain. Must be able to work weekends, holidays and shift work.

Seasonal Mosquito Control Clerk

Start Monday, March 16 - Friday, September 11

Under immediate supervision;  provides office management and support.   Familiarity with geographic information systems software preferred (ESRI).    Enters treatment records and develops summary reports. Responds to telephone inquiries concerning mosquito control activities. M-F 8 am – 4:30 pm.

Requirements for all positions:

Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent, VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE AND GOOD DRIVING RECORD MANDATORY; ability to read maps and perform simple math computations. 

Candidates wishing to be considered for this position must pass a physical/ drug screen and background check.

Seasonal Position Information

April 1 through May 8

Employees will walk through the woodlots spreading control materials into woodland pools using handheld application equipment

Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm




May 11 through September 11

Day Shift

Employees will treat mosquito breeding sites such as:  tires, flooded fields, roadside ditches, city catch basins, swamps, and county drains.

Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm








Night Shift 

Employees will perform the same basic larviciding duties as daytime personnel for the first three hours of their shift.  At dusk they will begin treating for adult mosquitoes using ULV (ultra low volume) aerosol generator.

Monday - Friday 4:30 pm - midnight

Sunday 8:00 pm - midnight (through July 11)

Weather conditions may require additional time outside of regular shift mandatory

Training Session & Applicator's Certification

April 1-3, 2020 are all day training sessions at the Midland County Mosquito Control (MCMC) office.  Employees will be required to pass an examination to obtain Registered Pesticide Applicator's license from the Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development.  The MDARD exam will be given at MCMC on Wednesday, April 3, 2020.
