NOVEMBER 6, 2007 ELECTION

There may be differing views on what should be done with an adult foster care home that has been placing quite a strain on the County's budget, but Midland County Commissioners unanimously agree that the people should decide Pinecrest's fate.

By virtue of a 7-0 vote on Tuesday, August 21, 2007, commissioners have decided to place a millage question on the November ballot that will ask voters for approval of a 20-year tax levy to support renovating and operating the facility. Commissioners earlier this summer hosted a public hearing to gather input from citizens on the Pinecrest issue before opting for a millage proposal.

The following is the ballot question that will appear on the November 6, 2007 ballot:

Countywide Proposal For All Precincts

New Millage To Support Pinecrest Infirmary

Shall the limitation on the total amount of general ad valorem taxes which may be imposed for all purposes upon real and personal property in Midland County be increased by a total levy of up to 0.37 mill ($0.37 per $1000.00) of taxable valuation, as finally equalized, for levy in the years 2007 through 2026, both inclusive, as provided in Michigan Constitution 1963; Article 9, § 6 (as amended) for the purpose of renovating, expanding, furnishing, equipping and/or operating the Pinecrest Farms County Infirmary and Adult Foster Care Facility for the benefit of disadvantaged individuals, which if approved and levied in its entirety, is estimated to raise $1,364,108 in the first year of levy?
